About niwato

niwato is a guide to Japanese gardens in Kyoto and Tokyo.

This first edition covers only gardens that open for a limited time between October 2026 and January 2027: special openings of normally closed gardens, and limited evening openings.

Dates and prices are checked against each garden's official announcement; every page shows when and where we checked. Where nothing has been announced yet, we list last year's pattern as “expected” and say so.

Places to eat and drink are small, independent spots within walking distance that we confirmed are open in 2025 or later.
