The small temple on the site of Teika's Ogura villa, open only in the maple season: moss garden, Shigure-tei teahouse and Teika's mound.

About the garden
A small temple built in the Edo period where Fujiwara no Teika, compiler of the Hyakunin Isshu poetry anthology, is said to have kept his mountain villa. Moss covers the grounds, with a teahouse named after the villa and a memorial mound for Teika. It opens to the public only in the maple season.
Where to stand
Inside the gate, look down first: moss, and the leaves that have fallen onto it. The Shigure-tei teahouse was built in the Taisho era and named after Teika's villa. At Teika's mound, each of you recall a favourite poem from the Hyakunin Isshu; that is what this little garden is for.
Practical notes
Open only Nov 1–Dec 7, 2026, 9:00–16:00, ¥500; the rest of the year it is closed. The temple is tucked away near Nison-in and easy to miss; allow about 10 minutes from Saga Shakado-mae bus stop. The grounds are small, so keep voices low.
